MIGHTY MUSK MELONS

It is MUSK MELON HARVEST time at Bagan Sungei Burung, Perak.

Musk Melons belong to the Cucurbitaceae family, water melons too. They have a net-like ribbing pattern. The melons here in Bagan Datok are as round as new full moons on a clear night sky.

And they are huge, so much larger than the ones I get from the supermarkets. It 's like lifting kettle bells in the gym. OHHH ...quick with the photo please.

After months of hard work tending to these trailing vines,

harvesting them is even more arduous. These heavy weights are individually plucked laboriously by hand.

Tenderly wrapped with newspapers.

Remember it’s a sizzler out there harvesting at 37 C on a cloudless day. But remember, when the GOING GETS TOUGH, the TOUGH GET GOING.

AHH … it is a back breaking task wheeling a barrow of these kettle balls. Psst.., now is a good time to ask for a pay rise!

For those of you with four eyes (that’s what we tease people wearing glasses), musk melons are rich in Vitamin A and beta-carotene. Throw in Vitamin C and we got ourselves a juicy winner here bursting with minerals and anti-oxidants.

Come meet the owners and stay for a week end. Join the harvest with Ah Kiang, these MIGHTY Melons are awaiting YOU.

  1. They are BIG. And look delicious. Harvest would be quite a workout. And, I hope, a profitable work out too.

  3. Mid August 2020 is a good time to visit Sky Mirror Bagan Sungai Burung. In addition to taking beautiful and interesting photographs at the Sky Mirror vicinity, you will also be greeted by the Mighty, juicy, sweet Musk Melons. You can hand-pick and take them home at a reasonable price. Another interesting attraction is the Sunflower field which I heard is also about to bloom. The big bright yellow sunflowers will definitely add life and colours to your photos. Last but not least, this place is a seafood heaven for seafood lovers. Not only you can eat there, you can also buy back.
