THE AFTERNOON MALAYSIANS SAT STILL!

I am quite tired of surviving this pandemic. But IT IS NOT tired of ME. The third and even fourth waves have descended upon us mere mortals. Malaysia was doing real well at end 2020, then the numbers escalated and it currently stands at 3000-plus new daily cases. Ohhh…I sometimes wonder if this is a purge!

Previously it was us in the upper age echelons that were being targeted for 'termination.' The new scenario in Malaysia is the young ones are getting infected. Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam was turned into a Covid Assessment Centre. Note the high numbers of youth going for their tests. Covid-19 positive individuals wear a pink wrist band to show they are under quarantine.

My take on this is the young ones have just about had it with staying home, they are on the prowl. They are gonna enjoy life, pre-pandemic style.

OUT with staying HOME, IN with going OUT.

We are past talking about masks and social distancing. We are getting our vaccines. My brother-in-law who is a dental surgeon received his vaccine digital certificate last month.
On 28th April, AstraZeneca was removed from our mainstream National Covid-19 Immunisation

Programme becos’ of unfavourable reports of blood clot effects post-immunisation. In addition, Sweden, France and Germany had suspended the use of this vaccine. Rather than dumping the vaccine, our Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation decided to offer it on a “first-come, first serve” basis to the general public via on-line registration.

The response was overwhelming with 268,800 AstraZeneca vaccination slots snapped up within 3 ½ hours. We had our computers on standby. As soon the clock struck 12 noon, Gizmo Man and myself logged in together with a few other hundred thousand citizens. Tempers flared with sites hanging, and green monsters emerged as whatsapp texts of successful registrations flooded our smart phones.

"I GOT it, You GOT or NOT?" "NOT yet!" "Hanging, hanging, how you do?" " Which booking site-ah?" "Refresh page-lah!" "Which vax centre you? Aiyoh, so far away." 😣😣😤😤"

Nineteen hours later on Monday night, I received my AstraZeneca confirmation date and venue. YES!

For those that got "hung" during this registration, don't fret, more vaccines "akan datang" (coming soon).

It took a particle with a mean size of 67 nm and invisible to the naked eye to keep Malaysians anxiously waiting by their computers at 12pm on Sunday 2 May 2021. The last time something like this happened was in 2018 at the badminton quarter-finals of the All-England Open between our Datuk Lee Chong Wei and China's Lin Dan.

  1. I have had my first AstraZeneca dose. It is reserved for the over 50s here.
I do hope you can get over this latest surge.

  3. The hike in the number of infected cases is worrying. We hear of cases here and there and it is too near for comfort. Take care and stay safe.

  6. I also have a question in my heart whether this virus is a cleansing from the universe for mankind.

  8. i gotta say - i'll be brief and not drop my opinions all over this post....I don't trust one thing at all that government tells us - I find it hard to believe the "narrative" that is being pushed constantly at all of us . Soon it will probably be three masks at one time we are suppose to wear plus a vaccination booster every six months...even though we still need the vaccination - masks, vaccination... what's next.

  11. I have registered for the vaccine, and India announced vaccination for all above 18 from May 1st, but due to lack of vaccines, the program has been postponed in our state Tamil Nadu. My parent's 2nd dose is scheduled for May 13, and that itself a doubt. Hope you got the vaccines.

    Take care
