ORCHIDS FOR CHRISTMAS

 and why not?

In my part of the world where holly and mistletoe cannot grow, I think ORCHIDS do very well for the Christmas season. Thus, I found a little shop with orchids in white

and different shades of purple
among the reindeer and poinsettias.

These are the moth orchids or Phalaenopsis recommended for beginners as they are the easiest to grow.
I strongly disagree as mine died after the first bloom! Till today, I have not figured out if I had over-watered or under-watered it.

The blooms display their elegance on long arching stems that last for 2 - 4 months .
Again I disagree as mine lasted about a month! The leaves are very succulent, thick and waxy. They look as though they have been polished.
This genus has over 60 species which blooms 2 - 3 times a year but I never got to prove this point as mine had a premature death.
They cost around RM400 (USD96, 56 GBP) per pot. The smaller varieties are just as lovely in vibrant shades.
Every bloom is so perfect and a photocopy of each other. That is why the sign says, "I am REAL. Please do not touch me.

  1. Orchids are beautiful at any and every time of year. Most of those in our garden have finished blooming for the year and seeing these glorious things is a very welcome reminder. Thank you.

  3. Love all the orchid photos. However, I'm one who could never grow them again after the first blooms died off. I don't have a clue, lol. Poinsettas - yeah that's a big thing over here.

  4. I love orchids because they are beautiful and long lasting. But somehow orchids do not like me because most of them will die under my care.

  5. I don't think any of us would turn up our noses at orchids and would think them festive for any occasion. They are beautiful!

  6. These orchids are quite a treat to the eyes, and you well cropped these for best views. I also had the worst experiences with flowering plants bought from the flower show and the visits to hill stations. They ever last long for me or fail to produce flowers as they bloomed at the display. I think they need the right weather and fertilizer to grow, which we could not provide at home.

  8. they are gorgeous. I had an orchid for alot of leaves but all I got was leaves. When we began travelling to the southwest, I couldn't bring any plants across the border so my sister got my orchid and my Christmas cactus. Both eventually died but the orchid never did bloom.

  9. Oh my.... Those beautiful creatures. I can accept if the price of orchid flowers highly expensive. Because they are pretty, elegance and having so many unique species. Some even only grow in certain areas or country.

Tapi sulit untuk terima kalau tumbuhan yang hanya punya daun seperti monstera ๐Ÿคฃ, bisa sangaaaat berharga mahal ๐Ÿ˜…. But again, it's up to our own preference ๐Ÿ˜.. me personally like orchid the most ❤️
