Nope, this is NOT a HORROR house. The house at the end of my street is a city house built in a “kampong-style” (traditional Malay) architecture.
with a rubber plantation behind.
The main
part of the house is built from bricks with a wooden fence to give it that rustic "kampung" feel and
it has this beautiful quaint wooden carved “kampong”
balcony with
someone has had their morning shower!
The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden with pops of many colours.
This mauve Ipomoea or commonly morning glory brazenly climbs over the fence like it owns the place.
A wooden side gate with an over-hanging crop of orange and yellow blooms.
This is the Phanera kockiana, a legume named after H.D. de Kock, the Vice Governor General of the Dutch East Indies. Hence, the common name - Kock's Bauhina.
But, in sad contrast to this living "kampung" house, the pandemic has resulted in many properties up "for sale" or "to let."
Recently, we have houses whose occupants have put up white flags.
as a sign that HELP is needed. It is not a government initiative. It started on social media and went "viral" overnight. "Fly the white flag" tag spread faster than covid-19.
Thoughtful Malaysians responded immediately.
This is very sad. Lockdown is staying home. But a lockdown for some means no wages and food.
Responsible Malaysians do their bit.
Some set up "cupboards of blessing" outside their homes,
food banks and free cooked packed meals.
🥰 Sometimes adversity brings out the worse in people as we compete for limited resources where demand exceeds supply But, this Covid-19 pandemic has brought out the good in mankind. Reader's Digest (India) highlighted the contribution of Sikh volunteers by featuring them on their June 2021 cover page 😍.
;I am so very glad that the white flag flying gets met with immediate assistance. What a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the house at the end of the street too - and would love to wander in the garden.
The white flag has been a tremendous help to our citizens and our people have never stopped to surprise me with their kindness and generosity.
DeleteThe house and its gardens look quite lovely to me. There are probably birds there for me to see! And the idea of the white flag is an inspired practice. I hope that people are generous in their response.
ReplyDeleteYes David, you will find the magpie robins, sun birds, tailor birds and even a king fisher or two.
DeleteI like that particular architecture! I also like that marvelous dates palm: it is typical in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Malaysian people on the "White flag movement". This time social media are so useful.
Kampung architecture is carved wooden structures. Houses built on stilts, long airy verandahs with wooden steps from ground to house
DeleteThat house and garden are so different from anything we see here and so beautiful and colorful.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely that people are helping each other. It is wonderful to see when adversity brings out kindness and compassion. :)
Glad the pictures show a side of Malaysia you have not seen. I hope Malaysians keep being kind and the fortunate take care of the people who are in real need now.
DeleteThe house and flowers are beautiful, would love some of those in my garden.
ReplyDeleteThe only positive thing out of this pandemic is that more people are helping those who need assistance with food or lodging.
Thanks for sharing those photos.
Welcome, I would love the flowers in my garden too. In fact after the lock down, I am going to find the Kock's Bauhina and plant in my garden.
DeleteThe house and garden look interesting, I like the balcony and wind chimes. The white flag will hopefully help those who are struggling and how good people are to help in a crisis:)
ReplyDeleteHello rosie, I like wind chimes too and the sound they make.
DeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice modern kampung house. I too have the orange flowers planted in front of my house. The white flag brings hope to those who are in need. So touched to see the public responding to the call for help. Hope no white flag will be missed out during this time of hardship. Just don't know when this pandemic will end.
ReplyDeleteThe orange flowers are beautiful when they creep up fences and trellis. Yes, we hope at least the positive cases are low so our government can open up businesses.
DeleteBoa tarde. Uma casa maravilhosa. Parabéns pelo seu excelente trabalho e fotos.
ReplyDeleteOla Luiz, Obrigada, tenha um dia maravilhoso.
DeleteLook like a good size home.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Yes Dora. "A not too big home with a just nice size garden," says Baby Bear.
DeleteI really feel proud of Malaysians who come up with this idea of the white flag and respond with kindness. I came upon an image of a van driver in Kashmir, living on oxygen, carries oxygen cylinders to patients dying out of oxygen. Despite the indifference in people following the protocol, the hearting to help those in need should be praised.
ReplyDeleteThe house at the end of your street looks beautiful and nice capture on its features, but my favorite part was its balcony.
It appears that people the world over have come forward together to help each other. This appears to occur more in Asia than the West as Asian governments struggle to cope with the pandemic.
DeleteThe house at the end of the street is wonderful! So interesting! I like the way those who need help get quick assistance. warms my heart.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who has put up a white flag has received help almost immediately. We hear news of one citizen who drives around to look out for the white flag in his neighbourhood, so he can quickly assist the families.
DeleteGreat architecture with beautiful garden. Good review
ReplyDeleteTQ Vicky, that house stands out in our row of butter boxes!!
DeletePandemic aside...I really loved all the colorful photos of the flowers and house. beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI wish my garden has all those beautiful plants too, ahh time to do some planting instead of wishing
DeleteOh so nice darling
ReplyDeleteTQ, keep well and safe
