Another day, another new NORM during this
pandemic era. Never in my life would I have imagined having to attend a virtual
graduation ceremony.
It was thus, with much amusement on Tuesday night when we participated in Savvy K's graduation ceremony from the University of the West of England Bristol. My Savvy K, the girl who would rather design bracelets, create necklaces, crop T-shirts, produce videos than bury her nose in an academic book, it was "a moment" for us.
Of course, Gizmo Man had to ask, "Why is the ceremony at night?" "Execute me please, we have to follow UK time zone, which is about 12.30pm (Malaysia is 7 hours ahead of Bristol)." The questions men ask sometimes π€¦♀️π€¦♀️ !!
Then Gizmo Man asked another gem of a question, "Girl, do I need to wear a tie for the ceremony." Savvy K replies, "Hey daddy, you are not graduating today, only my picture will be on the screen, NOT YOU." So Gizmo Man sat through the ceremony in his home-wear shorts and T-shirt. Thory was already excited on his own chair waiting for the action to begin.
the photos of the graduands appeared via Zoom.
Some graduands either made their own motarboards (top, left) or I guess bought one for this important event.
After the graduates for each degree were announced,
they unmuted their microphones for their virtual claps to be seen and heard.
It is a remarkable period in history to receive a degree, as not everyone can "boast" of graduating during a coronavirus pandemic with the world on restricted movement.
Tuesday night was truly a family affair with Thory and Belle, wine for a toast to Savvy K's future into the brave new world, "ta pau" (take away) pizza and pasta.
Now for the piece de resistance - the zoom picture of Savvy K graduating with her class of 2020.
WE LOVE YOU GIRL, but sometimes you have to conform to society.
HUGE congratulations.
ReplyDeleteYou must be so proud. Is it wrong of me to see distinct advantages to 'attending' a ceremony without the need to wear uncomfortable clothes?
TQ, you are quite right as the virtual ceremony was really fuss-free for us. We were very comfortable with our pets participating and didn't worry abt a bad hair day!!
DeleteI think a lot of things are going to be virtual for a while. Congratulation and best life to you in future.
ReplyDeleteTQ, virtual consultations in private hospitals are already on-going here and we 'll have to embrace many more pandemic challenges.

DeleteCongratulations on your graduation and I wish you success in your future.
ReplyDeleteIf I had graduated virtually, I would also have felt a little awkward but also memorable because the graduation situation was different from previous years
It was a graduation ceremony unlike any I have attended π€£
