Having a Barbeque in Malaysia is like having a BBQ in HELL. We have "bbqued" before, but that was when we were younger and sillier. Imagine bbq-ing in a weather of 30 C (86 F) with an average humidity of 80%. So, it was a pleasant surprise when Savvy K and E took me to a BBQ joint in an air-con restaurant.
SURPRISE! Look Ma, No hands, IT IS ROBOTIC!
OK, OK I know some of you may say “where's the FUN?” But believe me, in Malaysia a BBQ IS NO FUN cos' your body is sizzling more than the lamp chop on the rack and more sweat is dripping down your neck and back than the juices from the steak. At BBQ Bar, we ordered our meat selection already in skewers. Bananas, marshmallows, mushrooms, salmon, cheese tofu, Taiwan sausages, yummy bacon rolls and vegetables like brocholli (yikes, spare me) are included in the menu. They are then placed onto a robotic metal BBQ rack with charcoal perfectly flamed. A spice mixture is “showered” onto the meat as the robotic BBQ turns the meat like a mini rotisserie (note the secret pepper-spice sprinkling down).
All done? Just put the perfectly BBQ-ed food on the upper rack to cool. Enjoy with different sauces and chillies.
Being a “fun-tong” (rice bin), I also ordered fried rice with egg and scallion. Savvy K wanted a “soup” so we had tomato hot pot and noodles.
Total cost of the meal: 127 Ringgit (30USD, 23Pounds) for 3 pax plus drinks.
The restaurant is BBQ Bar at 74, Jalan SS 2/60, 4700 Petaling Jaya. Make reservations to comply with social distancing rules (018 7796433), or be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes.
It sounds and looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, I am not a fan of barbecues in our summer either. Cool meals are much more to my taste.
